Explore one of the most significant private map collections in the country with Going to Texas: Five Centuries of Texas Maps. On loan from the Museum of the Big Bend at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas, the exhibition explores 66 original maps from the renowned Yana and Marty Davis Map Collection. Paired with art from private lenders and the Briscoe’s collection, take a one-of-a-kind journey through nearly 500 years and trace Texas’ remarkable transformation from the days of New Spain to the modern era in this rare public showing of the collection widely regarded as one of the most important Texas cartography collections in existence.
We are deeply grateful to the generous sponsors who made this exhibition and its educational programming possible. Contributions made to the Briscoe bring powerful stories and extraordinary art to life, helping us celebrate the spirit of the West in new and inspiring ways.
